Valentine's Card from class

Here is another card we did for class. This was just last week. We did 2 cards and a little die cut basket. This was one of the cards.

The base card stock was metallic. It was kind of like foil covered. The white paper was my favorite Georgia-Pacific white cardstock from Walmart. The dies were from Spellbinders. The stamps were Stampin Up. The shading was done with Stampin Up ink as well.

After a long time away, I have some cards to post. I have been making things. Just not getting them posted here. I have been teaching card making classes about every other week. I am excited because I am working with a local business owner to start having the classes at her place of business so we would have more room.

Here is a a card we did for coloring. class. Lots of the people here have been getting copics and this was a chance to practice. I LOVE this stamp. I got it at I Brake for Stamps. It is a Wee Stamp by Sylvia Zet.

I cut out the scallop circle and circle with nestibilities. The background paper came from Tuesday. It had pretty cooper metallic parts that don't show up in the scan.

Manly Birthday Cards

I am sooo behind on blogging and really tired of my work taking my whole life. Rumor has it that I will have an easier time in November and December. I am looking forward to it. So here are the cards we did at one of my prior card making classes. We are still having classes at my house about every other week.

All of these stamps are from garage sales. The car set is my Stampin Up. The other was an unmounted stamp. I don't know who makes it. There are different colors of distress ink on each card.

Pop up wedding card

I did a pop up wedding card. This is the pop up die from Stampin Up. I colored the cake with Copics. I got the wedding cake stamp at a garage sale . The Together Forever stamp is from a stampin Up set.

I stamped the flowers on the paper under the cake with a stamp from the same set as the Together Forever stamp. I always think I can do these quickly but it is surprising how much time they take.

Soot Class

I have a card class today. I am teaching the soot technique.

It is like another one I did a couple years ago. The technique is fun but a little challenging. The idea is that you hold a paper over a flame and get soot on it. Then you stamp your image with no ink. This lifts the soot off , Finally you seal it. I have learned the following hints from doing this before.

I didn't have any luck with photo paper. I have really loved using the Ultra Glossy cardstock from Paper Temptress.
Use a taper candle rather than a pillar.
Get the paper right down in the flame, pretty close to the wick.

I will try and get some pictures at class with us in action!

For the card here, the tree is an older stamp from Rubber Stampede. The pumpkins came from a scarecrow stamp from I Brake For Stamps. The embossed background is from Cuttlebug. The buttons were an embosslet from Stampin Up

Marvelous Magicial Marque Card

I saw this video and just had to try it. I have made 3 cards. Two very much like the original but one a little different. So here is the link to the video.Marvelous Magical Marque Card . The card is pretty easy to do once you have it down.

The center of the flower is the inside of the card and it slides open to reveal words.

Lots of cards this weekend

I have been doing lots of cards this weekend.I am hoping to be able to sell some at work to stretch my budget. Here is one of my creations. This card opens in the center. It was actually was a mistake where I turned lemons into lemonade.

The giant flower by Prima. The center brad was by K&Company. I got both at Tuesday Morning. The better was in a boxed set from Michaels by Cheater. The little border down the center is done with a Stampin Up punch. Quick, pretty and turned a mistake into a nice card!

Coloring Class

I taught a couple coloring classes in my home this week. I am not an expert but I shared what I know. We did three cards with three different techniques. The cards themselves are pretty simple so the emphasis could be on the coloring itself.

The first was using water color pencils.

This stamp is by D. Morgan. I love these stamps but I am abscessed with beach stamps. Watercolor pencils are great because they are fairly inexpensive. Typically, they are light color. Usually when I color with water color pencils, I outline the area, and any detail lines, then spread the color with a paint brush. The basics are pretty easy for any skill level but you can grow and improve with practice.

The second card was done with odorless mineral spirits (OMS) and colored pencils. It is important that the colored pencils are waxed based but luckily most are. In this technique, you color the picture with colored pencils. You don't have to use a lot of color or create a smooth image because once your are you use a nub dipped in OMS and blend the colors. It makes the colored pencil much bolder colors and smooths & blends the coloring. It is kind of amazing how wonderful it can be. I think I will do a post with a before blended and after blended pictures. It's a great inexpensive technique with amazing results.

The final card was done with Copics. I used E00, E11, E02, R83, RV34, YG63, YG67, Y11, Y15, C1. I love my Copics because they bend so well. I also love the skin tons you can get from Copics. There are some amazing tutorials online already so I will not spend much time on this technique here.

I had a total of 9 people come to the classes. I am offering a Soot class latter this month. I am going to try and teach more classes in the future. If you have questions about these techniques, feel free to ask. If I don't have an answer, I may be able to point you in the right direction.

I colored this image while on vacation and put it together when I got home. I colored it with Copic markers. The stamp came from I Brake for Stamps. I have had the stamp for a while and not used it Sometimes unmounted stamps are hard to tell how wonderful they will be until you use them. Just loved with one once I got it colored. I cut the circles with Nestibilities dies. The background was done with an embossing folder. I can't remember if it was a Tim Holtz one or a by someone else.

I was working on card to use for a class. I started this one and I decided this one would be too hard for the class. I decided to finish it anyway. I don't have many hÄnglar and stÄnglar stamps but really love coloring them. Isn't this little chef cool. I colored it with Copics. The word stamp is from Stampin Up.

Playing with my Cricut

I am still learning to use my Cricut. I got a Winne the Pooh cartridge for a bargain at JoAnn Fabrics. Here is one of the first things I cut from it. The butterfly is a sticker.. I punched the cupcake border.

When I flew into St Louis to start my vacation, I was able to meet Snoopy from JustCards for lunch. She gave me this wonderful Stampscapes stamp from a store she shops at. Her daughters helped her go through my blog and group to see what I already had so they could get me something new. Aren't they wonderful!! I don't have a ton of supplies with me here at the cottages in Michigan but I colored this with copic markers and then used Colorbox cat eye chalks to shade the edges.

I don't have the same lights here to take the picture. Hope the colors show up okay.

Summer Card

Don't tell my swap partner! I just couldn't wait to show this card. I made it while visiting our family place in Michigan. I got the seascape paper at Prairie Arts in Springfield IL. It was in the clearance bin. The die cuts are done with a Cuttlebug Die. Looks pretty great on the beach if I say so myself!

Encastic art - Melted Crayon technique

The technique involves melting crayons on a craft iron ( no holes please) and swiping them on paper. Great way to use up bits and pieces of broken crayons.

Here is the first background I did. I was so proud of this first try. I used photo paper.
Below is my second try....

It is smoother. Same colors as the first. Then I have a picture of the card I did with the second background. It was really difficult to stamp on it.

Finally I tried an ocean scene.

Here is the 5th card. I stayed up late to get it done. The scan is a little crooked. I finally returned Matthew's camera to him. I have had it for a long time to take pictures of cards. I will be using the scanner for a while. Now off to bed. I have to get up early and head off to work!

All the coloring except the pink in the ears was done with Copics. I just love how they blend. The stamp is from hÄnglar and stÄnglar.

I did a set of card for an auction for March of Dimes. Farmers Insurance is a big supporter of March of Dimes. I did 4 card for it tonight. I also have some mini candy bars decorated. If I have time I will make a 5th card in the morning. I used the same paper on the background of them to make them look like a set. What do you think?

I did about 7 this weekend for the tsunami fund. This is colored with Copics. I didn't have all the exact colors I wanted but Copics blend so well, you can hardly tell. Canada Swap

This is the card I did for the Canada swap for Inkyfunstampers. Since my partner finally got the card, I thought I would share it here. The moose stamp is one of my favorites. I really don't know who makes the stamp but I have seen a couple people carry it. Search Alaska stamps ( since that is the collection it is in) and then look for the moose

I colored with Copics as usual. The embossed background was done with a Tim Holtz embossing folder. I used vintage photo distress ink to highlight the texture of the paper after it was embossed.

A tsunami of cards

All I have done all week is work and make cards. I have earned $139 for the tsunami victims in Japan. On top of that, Farmers Insurance and Zurich have each matched the funds I donated so it is really $417! It has been so nice to be help. I have only sold to a few people at work. I am hoping to contact a few more people this week so I am sure the total will continue to grow. Here are a bunch of the cards I have done .

This was done with a stamp set a friend lent to me. It is by Dream Impressions. I colored the images with copics and dress inks.

This is done with the Stampin Up owl punch and a stamp from the Punch Bunch stamp set. I borrowed the punch from a person at work. The tree has been cut with my cricut using the Graphicly Speaking cartridge. The card is also bigger than my regular card. It is 5 by 7.

I have done several fairy cards. They have been good sellers. This was done with stickers. I mounted them on white card stock and cut them out. Then I used Foam mounting tape to adhere them for dimension.

There has been a lot of requests for Easter cards. The lily stamp was created by my friend Rhonda Rainey and was sold by Dream Impressions. I colored with Copics.

I have decided I have to personally do something to aid the people of Japan. It won't be much but it will be something. I have started to make cards that I will sell for $3 each. Free postage if you buy 2 or more cards in the USA. All the money received will be given to the Red Cross for tsunami relief. Any money received this week will be donated to the Red Cross through a fund at Farmers Insurance that will match the funds so your $3 will be $6 of aid. I am also going to try other methods of finding buyer for these relief cards. Please pass the word on and let me know if you are interested in any of the cards shown. All the cards are one of a kind so when it is gone, it is gone. I am make more card ...just won't be exactly the same.

Gel Technique

This was another JustCards swap. Mine did not make it in one piece. The gel leaked.

I used a facial scrub gel that had sand or something in it. There is a thin plastic envelope of the gel behind the hole. The border punch with the sandcastles was done with a EK punch. My husband got it for me at Valentine's. The frame and center hole was done with nestibilities dies. The background was done with my Cricut. I stamped the fish on colored paper. Here is the inside too.

Here is the card I did for the JustCards alphabet swap. I is for Italy. The Italy stamp is from I Brake for Stamps . The postage stamps are stickers. The word Italy is cut with my Cricut using the Destinations card. The background paper was purchased at Tuesday Morning. I think it is made by Making Memories.

I have actually made a ton of cards lately. Some of them were for swaps and I was waiting for them to be received before I posted them. Others, I have just been too busy to post. The cards I am posting here, I did early one morning before work. I haven't been sleeping well and use crafts to relax.

So the thing about this card is that I used a sketch from PaperCrafts magazine to start. I made the card like this.....

It is a nice simple card. Actually, I did 2 of them like this. I used an old stamp for the words. the shapes were cut out with a nestabilities die and then the black piece was textured with a cuttlebug die. Very nice but just needed a little something. So I added this...

Isn't it amazing what that little bit does for the card! I love it now. Simple but wonderful!
Here is a version with red butterflies but I think I like the black the best.

And then here is one of the two I did with a horizontal layout. I did a total of 4 cards. I am trying not to have as much left over paper so I used the whole sheet of background paper. That paper came from Tuesday Morning. I don't remember the company.

Flowers

Last Sunday I made several flower cards.

They are all pretty simple. This is a combinations of flower parts. The background is a cuttlebug folder. The celebrate stamp is from Stampin Up.

I based the colors of this card off the colors in the ribbon. The flower stamp is one of my favorites. IT is by Stampendous. The paper behind that flower came that way. The embossed background was done with the same cuttlebug folder as the one before.

I tried to be creative with the layout on this one. All the paper is printed. The flower stamp is the same one as the card before this.

This is something I am saving for. I had no idea cuttlebug made anything like this until just recently. The also have a set that makes daisies and another that makes roses/carnations. From what I have seen, it even has a cutter that will cut your quilling strips. Has anyone tried these?

I went to a 50th wedding anniversary party yesterday and forgot to make a card. At the last minute, I put this together. The picture was on the party invite. The frame on the picture is a Spellbinders pendent die. The words are from a stamp set from Stampin Up. I was pretty pleased with it since I did it so fast.

I tried to use up images I already created and some of the scraps. This is one of them. The sailboat is from Stampin Up. The shell corners are part of a Taylored Artwork image. The background was dry embossed with a Cuttlebug folder. All the stamped imaged has been embossed with black embossing powder.

We had a swap on JustCards for a card that was done without stamps. This was my creation. I used the Summer in Paris cartridge for the Cricut for the Eiffel tower. The word Thanks is from the George cartridge. The postage stamps are stickers.

Birthday Card

I have been busy making cards for my mom and mother in law for a gift for them for their birthdays. This is one of my favorites I colored the hÄnglar and stÄnglar image with copics. I used B24, B26, Y15, Y17, E00, E11, YG06. I cut the circle and scalloped circle with a Nestibilities die. The background paper was the perfect touch finish it off.

Cricut Card

A friend lent me a cartridge for my new Cricut and I loved it so much, I had to get it myself. I can't believe I was able to get it on Ebay for about 20 with shipping. I was so excited. I love this cartridge! It is called Life is a Beach. Above is my totally Cricut card!

Cards after Cleaning

So while cleaning I found lots of images that were partly colored or even completely done and tons of scraps. I got a lot of cards done quicky and I am going to continue to try and use up some of those things.

I was really happy how her hair turned out on this one. I wish you could see it better from the picture. Part of her was colored with colored pencils blended with odorless mineral spirits. The rest was colored with Copics. The flowers are iridescent.

Organized Chaos

I have had to clean up my room after Christmas. well, it is not clean because I only showed you the edges in my pictures. In the middle is a card table still piled high but things are looking better.

This is my cutting table with my cuttlebug, new Cricut and manual paper cutter. The three containers with drawers underneath have paper, embossing folders, stamps, stickers, and chipboard diecuts. Most of the drawers are labeled. 2 drawers are just I Brake for Stamps stamps. I am a little crazy about them. : ) Behind the table is a closet with clothes in it. The hangers on the closet are some I got when a local store was closing.

This is m desk. So you seen my new TV on the bookshelf. The old one is sitting on the desk. I have used every inch. Two bookshelves on the desk. One with beads and jewelry supplies, the other with paper crafting supplies. The white bit above the shelf is a window frame. I have one window in the room. My room is in the basement.

This is the other wall by my deck. You can see just a tiny bit of the open door on the left hand side of the picture. The bookshelf has my Stampin Up stamps. The black "gutter" is my ribbon holder but it is starting to overflow. There are metal squares that hols magnetic containers and stuff.

Lots of stuff everywhere.

This is next to the door-behind my desk. I have things stacked up to the ceiling.

This is two shelves between the cutting table and my desk. You can see the card table at the bottom of the picture.

It is a very full room so I am going to try to be a good girl and limit my purchases while tryng to use up what I have.

Santa Treat holder

I needed one more different treat holder. This is shaped like the tree ones but decorated as Santa. I saw this done on a video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvgS9_BuykE

Very easy really. I used a button for his buckle since I didn't have one of the metal once from the video. I also used distress ink to color the paper so it looked pinker. Inside I have2 mini Snickers bars.

Big treat container

Here is another treat container I did. It is pretty big and would hold a lot more. You could loosen the ribbon on it and it would hold even more. I loved how it turned out but my pictures aren't terrific.

The papers were from a AC paper selection I got from Tuesday Morning last year. I did mine as a 9 by 9 square. That made it easy to divide by 3.

The Merry Christmas stamp is very old and I think it was from a Stampin Up. I have had it for about 20 years. I think this was fast and simple. Hope you will give it a try. I am going to use them for neighbor gifts this Christmas.

Happy accident

I have a standing order for two treat holders a week. I wanted to so something different so I searched the internet for ideas. Well, I found one that looked easy. I put on together and then went looking for a stamp to decorate it. Well, I found this stamp and it was a perfect fit. Isn't this cool!

It is soo easy. The stamp I used is by Outline Stamps. I colored it with copics. I filled it with a couple mini Snickers bars.

Faux Embossing

On JustCards, we had a faux embossing technique swap last month. I made the following card for the swap.

\There is a video here about the technique. You just use punches in the same color as the background and it looks embossed but it isn't.

The stamp used is from Stampin Up. The snowflakes were done with a Cuttlebug die and embossed in a Cuttlebug folder.

Today I did another card using the technique. This time I used a new cupcake punch. I have wanted the punch for a long time and happily got it on Thanksgiving day. The stamps are from Stampin Up. I colored it with Copic markers.

New Pop up card this year

I made another pop up Christmas tree card. There are many more that I did last year so you can check the archives if you want to see more. I did it with a die I got from Stampin Up. Iy was expensive but I love the cards I have done with it. This card is for a friend's grandchild. He has asked to pay for it but I am going to give it to him. The front is a hÄnglar and stÄnglar stamp. I love these even more than Magnolia but that are even harder to get. A friend in Sweden has treated me to some stamps and images.

I colored it with Copic markers.

Here is the tree. I have added several pictures so you can see it opening.

The tree has been decorated with Stickles, die cuts and punches. The die cuts were from Cuttlebug. The "balls" are punches from a regular little circle punch. I then took a white highlighter to each ball circle to give it dimension. The tree border is an EK punch.

So here is the first card. Tthe image was a gift. The red and white shapes are left over from a Christmas card from last year and is done with a Spellbinders die. I colored it with Copics.

The image used below was a gift from my friend Annika. It is hÄnglar and stÄnglar stamp. I colored it with Copics.

This one is also an image from my friend. It is a Magnolia stamp. The embossing on the background is a Cuttlebug folder. The red background shape is a Spellbinder die. The coloring is copics again

The Santa stamps are by High Hopes. The word stamp is Stampin Up. The coloring is copics and the a little colored pencil to shade the beard. I also used Diamond Sticklers to decorate the trim on his hat.

This santa is also High Hopes. I don't remember who did the Happy Holidays words. Coloring was done with Copics again. The hat trim has Stickles again.

This image was another gift and is colored with copics.

This one was done with a sticker set I got at Tuesday Morning. I did the embossing on some beautiful metallic paper with a Cuttlebug folder. It is the reverse side of the background paper with the little +'s on it. I got that at Tuesday Morning too. I used the extra little snowflakes and gems on the simple embossed Christmas trees.

Here is another image that was a gift. It is colored with copics. The Santa is High Hopes.

This is the inside of one of the cards. It with done with an EK border bunch. I loved home it layered.

These didn't sell too well. Of all the cards I posted today, I have 5 left. Do you wonder if you will get one for Christmas?

Now it is time to show you some of the Christmas cards I did : ) The first two are cards made with the pretty paper I mentioned that matches the dollar store chipboard pieces I got.

Next are two simple embossed cards. I needed cards to sell at the craft show and was terribly sick. I decided I needed some simple cards. The embossing folders are from Cuttlebug.

So I have had a lot of posts on my treat containers. I also did some jewelry. I don't like how my pictures of the jewelry turn out but this one turned out nice. This one did not sell at the craft show but I like it and am happy to keep it. They are simple pieces but I like it.

I guess I didn't take many pictures of many of these. I found a box of Christmas chipboards at the dollar store and just happen to have perfectly matching paper. I also found some other chipboard images that I had from last year.

The joy tag is a chipboard one. The other one is a sticker one. Below is one of the ones I did with Chipoard I had left from last year.

I have made a ton of treat holders. I sold many of them at a craft sale at work. The containers here are done with a kit by K&Company. I will do several posts with them. I didn't get pictures of them all.

I saved a couple to use as patterns in the future.

I got this lovely paper on clearance. It is double sided. You are seeing both sides here.

Halloween at card class

I do a card class in my home once and a while. We did one last night and I designed the cards yesterday afternoon. I was very happy how they turned out doing it so fast.

Recently we had a day designated for telling people thank you at work. The actually supplied candy grams to give up but I was not able to get some to give to some of the people I wanted so I made these.

The were done postcard style with the message written on the back. Very simple but I was happy how they looked.

The thank you stamp is from Stampin Up. I got the baby I used from Tuesday Morning.

Heard you were draggin'

I made this for a little boy who was recently in the hospital. The dragon is a Sizzix die I got at Sizzixoutlet.com. It is a great site for bargains.

The paper that looks brow in the picture is shinny copper colored. I believe I got it from Paper Temptress. You should try out her paper if you haven't before. Nice stuff.

The words and design around them are from Stampin Up. The punched border is also from Stampin Up.

Monster candy holders

Black Velvet Technique

I tried the Black Velvet Technique. You stamp with white in on black cardstock. Then you use colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits to color it. The stamp I used were old Stampin Up stamps. The background is beautiful patterned paper. I used this video and altered it a little.

Napkin Technique

This is a fun and easy technique. I saw it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hpqpeljWd4&feature=related It was so easy, just separate a napkin layers so you just have the top layer. Then layer the cardstock, a piece of plastic wrap and the napkin. Then iron it with it protected from melting on the iron. I added a stamp that said Thank you and a EK border. Quick lovely card.

Here is the card I did for the No Stamp swap at Card Crafts yahoo group. I liked the inside too but the picture is a bit blurry. The butterfly was part of a printed sheet. The inside butterflies are from a die by Stampin Up

This is a card that I made this morning for a friend to give my son for his wedding. Confusing? : )

It is simple but elegant. The wedding colors are red, black and white. The shapes are cut out with a spellbinders pendant die. The words are from Stampin Up and the background is done with a cuttlebug folder.

Here is a recent card I did for a JustCards swap. The theme of the swap was any card shape besides a rectangle. My partner in the swap was my friend Elenor in Sweden. The outside scalloped circle was done witht he Stampin Up die. The others were done with Nestibilities except the smallest one which was done with a Stampin Up punch. The word is from Stampin Up as well as the punches used to cut out the parts. The hummingbird was an image gift from someone. It was colored with Copics.

It was a fun technique and not near as hard as it looks. I did the hole and scalloped circle with nestabilities. I did the butterflies with a Stampin Up die and the flowers with punches. The background is a Cuttlebug folder.

I needed a card for a make co-worker. I wish I had something to do with biking for him but this is a nice card. The lighthouse is Little Point Sable in Michagan. It is south of our family place in Michigan. I colored it with makers and watercolor pencils. The background was embossed with a cuttlebug folder.

Here is a card I did last night. I put it together quickly. I was working on the computer for my son and had 30 minutes while a program loaded. This is the card I made. As usual, I am not happy with what the colors look like. I may have to find a new way to take my pictures. The image was from a swap. It has been colored with Copics. I used a white gel pen for the high lights. The words are a Stampin Up stamp. The shapes are cut with Nestabilities. The embossed background is from Cuttlebug.

A is for Africa

This is a second A card. I wish it showed the colors better. The purple looking layer is a metallic so it doesn't really photo well.

I brayered the background and then stamped the image over it.Then I colored the image a little. The word Africa was part of a package label.

I used the new Stampin Up bird punch on it. "Embrace Life" is also a Stampin Up image.

I did another one because Snoopy is ill. I helped out by filling her swaps. The bee images were from a swap.

The words are acrylic sticker letters.

The butterflies are done with a Stampin Up die. The bees are colored with Copics.

Father Day Pop Up

Pretty card, huh? : ) Well, I like it but the real fun is inside. I got a wonderful bargain at Sizzix.com . I had wanted this die for a while. The front of the card is done with some very pretty paper. The words are a sticker. The shells are cut with a cuttlebig die.

Here is the card open. It just makes me smile. I think it will work with a camp themed card too. Pop up cards are such fun!!

Flowers

I did two cards with flowers this last weekend. If you are my partner in the Flower swap on Card Crafts, look away! lol. Well, you won't know which one I sent you.

Both of these cards are done on scraps of paper. I designed the cards around the paper. I cut the background shapes with my Slice. The word stamps are from Stampin Up. The flowers on both cards were colored with Copics.

The image in this second card was given to me in a swap. Not very fancy but I was happy with them both.
